The Ministry of Municipality, in collaboration with Ashghal, has launched a national project to upgrade 18 public beaches across Qatar. The initiative aims to enhance beach infrastructure, improve visitor experience, and support domestic tourism.
According to Abdulaziz Al Rumaihi, Director of the Projects Management and Development Department, the first phase has already been completed, covering eight beaches including Simaisma, Al Wakra, Sealine, Al Farkia, Al Ghariyah, Safa Al Touq, and Al Kharaij.
The Ministry has also prepared for the summer season by coordinating with municipalities to ensure beach readiness, cleanliness, and safety. Measures include round-the-clock cleaning, first aid services, and shaded areas for families and children.
Al Wakra Beach has seen major upgrades, such as:
- 200 wooden umbrellas (including accessible ones)
- 300 shaded seating areas
- Playgrounds with safe sandy flooring
- Spaces for food trucks and restaurants
- Beautified entrances and walkways
Promotional campaigns are undergoing to raise awareness about beach facilities and encourage responsible use. Visitors are also advised to follow health guidelines during peak summer hours.
