Aspetar, the renowned Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha, is set to host its first-ever Global Sports Medicine Conference this October, marking a major milestone in the field of athlete health and performance. The three-day event, scheduled from October 8 to 10, will bring together over 100 leading voices in sports medicine and science from more than 35 countries.
The 2025 Aspetar Global Sports Medicine Conference aims to serve as a premier international forum for exchanging groundbreaking research, clinical innovations, and emerging technologies that shape the future of athlete care. Topics will span a wide spectrum from surgical advancements and performance enhancement strategies to the integration of artificial intelligence and regenerative medicine in sports healthcare.
Khalid Ali Al-Mawlawi, Acting Director General of Aspetar, described the upcoming conference as a pivotal moment for global sports medicine. He noted that the event reflects both Aspetar’s and Qatar’s dedication to fostering excellence in research and education, reinforcing the hospital’s role as a global leader in the intersection of sports and medical science.
The conference agenda is packed with over 35 sessions, including 18 keynote speeches by internationally recognized experts, daily specialized tracks, and hands-on workshops. These sessions will cover key areas such as sports injuries, athlete medical conditions, performance science, and allied health disciplines including nursing, pharmacy, and dental medicine.
Participants will also engage in dynamic panel discussions, explore scientific poster presentations, and attend between six to ten accredited workshops each day—offering a rich educational experience and opportunities for professional collaboration.
Among the distinguished speakers are Dr. Andrew Massey, FIFA’s Medical Director, who will outline FIFA’s proactive health strategies for athletes, and Professor Roald Bahr, who will present the IOC’s initiatives to protect athlete wellbeing. The conference will open with Dr. Kirsty Burrows from Switzerland, who will offer a holistic perspective on athlete health. Other notable contributors include Dr. Pieter D’Hooghe on elite foot and ankle surgery, Professor Marco Cardinale on youth athlete protection, Dr. Brian Cole from the U.S. on cartilage disorders, and Dr. Elisabeth Hagert from Aspetar, showcasing innovations in hand and wrist surgery.
