Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has expanded its initiatives aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in alignment with the National Health Strategy 2024–2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030. Both frameworks prioritise the health of individuals and families as key national objectives.
As part of these efforts, the ministry recently organised an educational workshop for parents of children with autism, focusing on healthy nutrition and preventing excessive weight gain. The event was held in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation and the Renad Academy at Qatar Foundation.
The workshop sought to strengthen parents’ awareness of nutritious eating habits and address frequent dietary challenges experienced by children with autism. It underscored the role of balanced meals in reducing the risk of obesity and related health issues.
Officials noted that the sessions paid particular attention to the unique nutritional difficulties that children with autism may encounter, providing safe and practical recommendations for managing them. The programme also highlighted the value of adopting active lifestyles and deepening understanding of nutrition-related concerns associated with autism.
Parents received hands-on guidance on supporting their children in building long-term, healthy eating behaviours.
The Ministry of Public Health emphasised that these efforts form part of a wider approach to ensuring inclusive healthcare services and holistic support for individuals with autism and their families.
