The initiative, led by the Preventive and Promotive Oral Health Department, forms part of broader national efforts to reinforce the connection between oral health and overall well-being. Dr. Hamad Al Mudhahka, Executive Director of the Preventive Health Directorate, emphasized that the campaign addresses the specific needs of the elderly population, who require tailored preventive and educational support.
The programme focuses on raising awareness among seniors and their families about the importance of oral hygiene and its impact on general health. It also aims to equip caregivers and family members with practical knowledge on maintaining oral hygiene and caring for dental prosthetics. In parallel, healthcare professionals will participate in specialized lectures designed to highlight the role of oral health in promoting healthy aging.
A key component of the campaign includes home-based dental checkups delivered through mobile dental units, ensuring access to services for elderly individuals who are unable to visit healthcare facilities. The initiative primarily targets senior citizens across Qatar, while also engaging caregivers, government employees, and school students. Young participants will take part as “Oral Health Ambassadors,” sharing awareness within their families and communities.
Campaign activities will be conducted at various venues, including health centres, facilities operated by the Ehsan Center for Empowerment and Elderly Care, private homes, and inpatient units at Hamad Medical Corporation. Educational video content will also be distributed to students to strengthen their understanding of elderly care and foster intergenerational connections.
The campaign will feature a range of activities such as educational booths, awareness lectures, hands-on demonstrations, preventive oral screenings, and training sessions on proper tooth brushing and denture care techniques. In addition, participants will receive tailored nutritional guidance aimed at supporting oral and overall health among older adults.
To maximize outreach, the initiative will be supported by a comprehensive media campaign across newspapers, radio, television, and social media platforms.
“Ahlan for Oral Health 2026” highlights the message that a healthy smile reflects not only appearance but also an individual’s quality of life. By combining education, training, and preventive services, the campaign seeks to promote healthy aging and position the smiles of older generations as symbols of well-being passed down across Qatar’s community.
