Port Sudan ceremony marks distribution of nearly 9,000 food parcels across three states
The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has begun a fresh phase of humanitarian assistance for communities in Sudan, launching a large-scale food distribution campaign aimed at supporting impoverished and conflict-affected families in three states.
The initiative, implemented in coordination with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS), was officially launched during a ceremony in Port Sudan. The event was attended by H E Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al-Sada, Qatar’s Ambassador to Sudan, Ahmed Al‑Tayeb Suleiman, Secretary‑General of the SRCS, representatives from the targeted states, and members of the QRCS field team.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Salah Al‑Din Daak, Head of QRCS’s Representation Office in Sudan, confirmed that 8,875 food parcels will be delivered over the coming days. The distribution plan includes:
5,000 parcels in North Kordofan
1,000 parcels in River Nile State
2,875 parcels in White Nile State
Dr. Daak described the assistance as part of Qatar’s ongoing humanitarian commitment to Sudan, stressing its importance in reinforcing food security for families living in particularly vulnerable conditions.
For his part, Ahmed Al‑Tayeb Suleiman expressed appreciation for Qatar’s sustained humanitarian engagement, commending the role played by the Qatari ambassador and national relief organisations.
He noted that SRCS branches and volunteers are fully prepared to ensure the aid reaches beneficiaries efficiently and transparently, with careful monitoring to guarantee timely and fair distribution.
The current food distribution drive forms part of a broader series of humanitarian interventions carried out by QRCS and other Qatari relief agencies to support the Sudanese population amid ongoing humanitarian challenges.
In parallel, QRCS continues to raise charitable donations to supply 8,442 assorted food parcels containing locally sourced staples. This programme is designed to assist 50,652 poor and displaced individuals across Sudan, with each parcel valued at QR385.
Donations supporting these efforts can be made through QRCS’s official website.
