Digital system reduces waiting times and supports Qatar’s healthcare digital transformation
The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has reported marked improvements in service efficiency and patient movement at its workers’ health centres following the introduction of the “Hakeem” digital health platform, an initiative aimed at reducing wait times and simplifying medical procedures.
In an interview with Qatar Television, Ahmed Saud Jassim, Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Medical Affairs Division of QRCS, said the platform has significantly eased pressure on health facilities that collectively handle more than 5,000 patient visits daily.
Jassim explained that Hakeem allows patients to access a wide range of healthcare services remotely, cutting down the need for repeated in‑person visits. By shifting core processes to a digital system, QRCS has reduced paperwork and improved the overall patient journey.
Following medical consultations, prescriptions are now issued electronically through the platform. Patients can also complete digital payments, a step that further enhances convenience and shortens service timelines.
QRCS currently operates four workers’ health centres under an agreement with the Ministry of Public Health, in addition to managing an extensive ambulance fleet and specialised medical training programmes.
According to Jassim, future phases of the Hakeem platform will expand its reach to include additional services and wider segments of the population. He noted that the project aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly its focus on healthcare modernisation and digital transformation.
He also stressed that the platform is supported by robust cybersecurity systems, developed in line with international standards, including ISO 27001 certification, to ensure the protection of patient data.
By enabling appointment bookings, simplifying administrative procedures, and providing faster access to medical records, the Hakeem platform has contributed to smoother operations and an improved patient experience. The reduction in crowding at health centres is also expected to raise overall service quality and allow healthcare professionals to dedicate more time to patient care.
As QRCS continues to enhance the platform’s capabilities, Hakeem is set to play a central role in modernising healthcare services for workers in Qatar, positioning it as a model for digital health innovation across the region.
