The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a warning to the public about the growing use of deepfakes and other AI-generated content designed to impersonate individuals.

In a social media advisory, the Ministry reminded users that digital content cannot always be taken at face value, stressing the importance of remaining cautious online. “Not everything you see or hear is real,” the Ministry stated while outlining measures to reduce the risks associated with rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technologies.

Deepfakes are synthetic media generated through AI and machine learning tools that can create highly convincing images, videos, or audio recordings of people appearing to say or do things they never actually did. These technologies can also be used to replicate communication styles through methods such as voice cloning, fabricated video calls, and other AI-produced content.

The Ministry advised the public to exercise caution when encountering information online and to avoid believing, forwarding, or sharing material without first confirming its source and authenticity.

Officials emphasized that verifying content before engaging with it is an essential step in protecting against deception and minimizing the potential risks posed by AI-based impersonation techniques.
